A: Just because an agent spends a lot on ads does not mean they are good. The best source is recommendations from friends and co-workers. Also, real estate agents tend to specialize in certain limited geographic areas so look and see who are most active in the areas you want to buy. Many people suggest using only a Realtor (member of the National Association of Realtors) because they tend to better trained and have certain ethical codes. Always ask potential agents for the names and numbers of previous clients and then check with them. Lastly, remember that your agent only gets paid if a deal closes so they have a built in conflict of interest with you. They may urge you to do things not in your best interest to get a deal closed. If something seems wrong to you do not hesitate to question it and say no.
